Training Your Dog to Go Up & Down
Pet Steps. Pet Ramps. Pet Training

To teach Your Dog or Cat to use the steps or ramp here are a few tips that might help:

1.  Start by putting him on the top landing.
2.  With a small piece of chicken or other delicious treat---put your hand in front
of his nose and move your hand down the pet ramp or pet step.
3.  He should follow your hand and the treat.
4.  Don't give him the treat until he has reached the bottom and praise him.
5.  Repeat consistently several times a day.
6.  When he seems comfortable with that exercise, start the same process from the
bottom of the pet ramp or pet steps going up.
7.  After several days he should be following your finger up and down without the treat.
8.  If he jumps off before he is all the way down or up---pick him up and start him over again.
9.  This will help him learn that going up and down the ramp is a treat and fun for him.
10.  Do not give into his little doggy or kitty demands and pick him up to put him on or off the bed.
11. Changing a smart little doggy or kitty's habits may take a few days to a few months.
12.  Once the little doggy has learned to go up and down on his own, he will have a new found
confidence that will make you proud of him.

If you need a little extra incentive, put his favorite treat and/or toy on the bed after you get up
each morning and leave it there.   He will eventually learn that if he wants them, all he has to do
is go up the ramp and get them.
